The Powertech range of Lithium batteries have a BMS installed to protect the unit from over-charge or over-discharge, over temperature & short circuit. If this occurs, they only display a voltage below their rated voltage, and will need to be reset.
The vast majority of Lithium battery warranty enquiries our stores get are for batteries used in packs wired to a single charger where the batteries experienced BMS cut-off due to imbalanced charging - they worked fine once their BMS was reset. The same applies to batteries left in storage for a long time.
How to reset the battery BMS
You'll need a mains power supply or a charger that can be set to power supply mode - e.g. MB3619 for 12v batteries.
Disconnect Load: Make sure nothing is connected to the battery.
Check Terminals: Find the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of the battery.
Prepare Voltage Source: Get a power supply or another battery that has the right voltage for your battery.
Connect Voltage: Attach the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of the voltage source to the positive (+) & negative (-) terminals of the battery.
Apply Voltage: Turn on the power supply (not required if using another battery) & wait approximately 60 seconds.
Disconnect Voltage: Remove the connected power supply or battery.
Check Battery: Use a multimeter or battery tester to confirm the BMS has successfully reset.
Reconnect Load: If you had devices connected to the battery before, you can now reconnect them.
